Within a matter of three weeks, the Brad Pitt-starring, Steven Soderbergh-directed baseball flick Moneyball has gone from big-ticket prestige project to dead-in-the-water dud and — with the help of writer Aaron Sorkin — back to life… maybe.

As reported last week, the project was dropped by the studio when Soderbergh turned in a final script that was so alarmingly different from the one originally penned by Oscar-inner Steve Zaillian that they had no choice but to pull the plug with only days to go before the schedule start of shooting.

But now comes news from The Hollywood Reporter that Sorkin, most famous for the fast-talking scripts of TV’s West Wing, has been brought on to have a crack at the screenplay in the hope of resurrecting the project.

According to the report, Sorkin has been given orders to ignore the Soderbergh script and work from Zaillian’s draft of the true-life story of Oakland A’s manager Billy Beane. Brad is still set to star in the flick as Beane, but it looks like director pal will not be the one helming the film.

With nothing to do these days, Brad has spent his free time riding his motorcycle around L.A., at least when the bike isn’t breaking down in the middle of the road.
