New Members Profile Setup

Whether you're new to forums or just a new member to The Brand Corner Forum, the initial setup can sometimes be a little confusing. I hope that this will take some of the stress out of setting up your profile.

If you've been watching the forum, then you already understand that you must become a member before posting. I will strive to keep this board Troll Free and feel that becoming a member is a small price to pay for not having to wade through numerous pages of posts and even more pages of topics every day.

Once you register, you will be sent a validation link via email. Not within my control, but as a part of the system that the forum gets its free space from. Clicking on the link sent to your email address puts you in the member's category. Congratulations! You're now ready to set up your Profile. **Since there are options within your Pofile that are actually important, please take a few minutes to personalize this section.

Once you have logged-in, click on the Profile link at the top of the page.

You will see a window with six (6) links:

INFORMATION TAB
All information on this first page should be considered Personal Information.
**NEVER give out personal information. Not even to your own mother.

Registration Information - See my profile will allow you to see what other members see about you and is filled out from some of the information below.

Username: The name that you chose when you registered as a member (visible to you, not other members)
E-mail address: Shows your current email address which is in your control.
New password Section: Allows you to change your password by entering your current password, your new password and verifying your new password.

Profile Information:
Following information will be publicly available.
This section is what others will see about you and will be filled out from the blanks below it. To see what information you are giving out, click on the Registration Information - See my profile located just under the Profile Navigation Links above. The five selections represent the five blanks found in the Profile Information above it.

Gender: *optional, will be displayed as part of your Profile Information
Birthday: *Optional, will be displayed as part of your Profile Information
Location: *Optional, will be displayed as part of your Profile Information
Job/hobbies: *Optional, will be displayed as part of your Profile Information
Humor: *Optional, will be displayed as part of your Profile Information

The next unnamed section allow others to see the many different ways to contact you,
Website:

ICQ Number: *Optional, not recommended
AIM Address: *Optional, not recommended
MSN Messenger: *Optional, not recommended
Yahoo Messenger: *Optional, not recommended
Skype: *Optional, not recommended

PREFERENCES TAB
Clicking on the Preferences Tab allows you to set some very critical forum options, please select carefully.

Allow members to contact me by email : Recommended "No".
Allow visitors messages on my profile : Optional, Up to you.
Allow newsletters : Optional, Up to you. Not planning on sending out newsletters, but you never know.
Hide your online status : Optional, Up to you. Silent browsing is allowed.
Always notify me of replies : Unless you want to add to your spam intake, recommended "No".
Notify by mail when a new message has arrived in your in-box : Optional, Up to you.
Warn me of PM from a PM mailing : Recommended, "Yes".
Display a pop-up window on new private messages : Optional, Up to you.
Display a notification when new replies are written : Optional, Up to you.
Open report popup on new reports : Optional, Up to you.
Notify me by email if someone reports a post : Optional, Up to you.
Always attach my signature : Optional, Up to you.
Always allow BBCode : Optional, Up to you.
Always allow HTML : In order to post html links and images, select yes.
Always enable Smilies : Optional, Up to you.
Board Language : Give it a shot.
Timezone : Optional, Up to you.
Date format : Optional, Up to you.
Automatic time correction : Optional, Up to you.
Adjust time : Optional, Up to you.

SIGNATURE TAB
Some of the selections may change, such a s flash and the enormous 500 characters, so please keep it more along the lines of "less is more".

FRIENDS AND FOES TAB
Another way to reduce the stress of posting is the friends and foes tab. Friends are highlighted and Foes posts are hidden. You can even accept or refuse "friend" requests.
Friends: Your friends list allows an rapid access with the members with whom you often discuss.
Foes: are members whose messages will not be entirely visible and of which you will not receive any more private messages.
**Note that you cannot ignore the moderators or the administrators.

TOPIC IS BEING WATCHED
Easily monitor threads with this handy-dandy little tool.

Once you are done:
You can click on the Information Tab and then click the See My Profile link. See what other members can see about you, go back and edit, change and make your profile your own.
